Review of Patrick McGuinness's
The Last Hundred Days

UK folks should already be familiar with this book -- longlisted for the Booker, shortlisted for the Costa, and winner of the Wales Book of the Year award.

But it's just come out in the U.S. with Bloomsbury USA.

Caught in the Twilight of Ceausescu's Romania

My review from the Washington Post.

The Stuff of Life: Friends, Loss, Food

Food! Is there anything more soothing to the soul, more indicative of one's mood, more uplifting when down, more celebratory when up?
I spent yesterday afternoon, Leap Day, sharing nibbles and a golden bottle of blanc de blancs from a local wine shop after a long walk on this surprisingly warm sunny day in Cardiff, UK. My extra day, well spent.
Which brings me circuitously to Liz Moore's HEFT, which I reviewed recently for The Washington Post. What I both liked and admired about this book is the life in it.
But I've already said what I thought in this review.
